Police investigate fatal collision

Our Traffic Section is investigating the circumstances of a fatal collision that occurred Sunday night.

On Sunday, April 12, 2026, at approximately 8:20 p.m., a man who remains unidentified at this time crossed 16 Avenue, near 8 Street S.W., from Tomkins Park. Before reaching the curb, the man fell or laid down on the roadway in front of a parked Nissan Rogue. Several minutes later, the driver of the Rogue returned to their vehicle, started the engine and pulled out from the parking spot, driving over the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital where he has since passed away. An autopsy is being conducted by The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine whether the man passed away from injuries sustained during the collision.

The driver, a man in his 50s, remained at the scene and was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing.
