Police investigate fatal collision involving stolen vehicle
We continue to investigate a collision that occurred last month in the northeast.
On Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at approximately 8:10 p.m., a multi-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of 52 Street N.E. and Fourth Avenue N.E.
At the time, a 42-year-old man was driving a stolen GMC Jimmy north on 52 Street N.E., approaching the intersection of Fourth Avenue N.E.
At the same time, an 83-year-old man driving a Toyota Scion, entered the intersection travelling west on Fourth Avenue N.E., to turn left onto southbound 52 Street N.E. The GMC Jimmy entered the intersection on a red light and struck the left side of the Toyota Scion.
The driver of the GMC Jimmy initially left the scene on foot but was brought back by a witness.
Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospital. A passenger in the GMC Jimmy, a 32-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was treated on-scene.
Yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023, it was reported to police that the driver of the Toyota Scion died as a result of his injuries.
Drug impairment and speed, on behalf of the driver of the GMC Jimmy, are being investigated as factors in this collision. Charges are pending.
