Police investigate fatal collision involving pedestrian

We continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred over the weekend.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, a collision took place at the intersection of 24 Street S.W. and 162 Avenue S.W.

At the time, a 48-year-old woman was walking southbound from the northeast corner to the southeast corner of the intersection and is believed to have been within, or close to, the marked pedestrian crosswalk.

At the same time, a maroon 2009 Honda Pilot, driven by a 49-year-old woman, was travelling south on 24 Street S.W., and made a turn onto eastbound 162 Avenue S.W.

The Honda struck the pedestrian as it entered the eastbound lanes and collided with a bus shelter, before crossing both eastbound travel lanes and coming to rest on the median, facing north.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the Honda was uninjured in the collision.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in this collision.
