Police investigate fatal collision involving motorcycle
Our Traffic Section is investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist.
At about 12:40 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025, a 2025 BMW S 1000 RR motorcycle, driven by a man in his 20s, was travelling southbound on Macleod Trail S., near the intersection of James Mckevitt Road S.W.
The motorcycle struck the rear of a 2020 Hyundai Kona, driven by a man in his 60s, which was travelling southbound in the same lane.
The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained on scene.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the collision. Excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle is believed to be a factor.
To date in 2025, Calgary has had 27 fatal collisions with 27 total fatalities. Of those, six were motorcyclist fatalities.
