Police investigate fatal collision involving elderly woman

Police are investigating a collision that occurred in the city’s northeast last week, which has now resulted in the death of a woman in her 90s.

At approximately 6 p.m., on Friday, March 31, 2023, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Aero Drive and Aero Gate N.E. 

At the time, a car with two occupants was travelling southbound on Aero Drive through the intersection of Aero Gate. At the same time, an SUV with a single occupant was travelling northbound on Aero Drive and turned left to access westbound Aero Gate. 

During the turn, the car struck the passenger-side front door of the SUV, causing the car to rotate approximately 90 degrees and come to a rest. The SUV continued with the turn and came to a controlled stop a short distance later.

The driver of the SUV, a male in his 60s was not injured in the collision. The driver of the car, a male in his 60s received minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

The passenger of the car, a woman in her 90s sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. The woman succumbed to her injuries a few days later on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, and died in hospital.

Neither speed nor impairment are considered to be factors in this collision.
