Police investigate fatal collision in the city’s southwest
Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate a multi-vehicle collision that occurred yesterday morning on Crowchild Trail S.W., resulting in the death of a teen.
At approximately 8:18 a.m., on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, we responded to a collision in the northbound lanes of Crowchild Trail S.W., between 50 Avenue and Flanders Avenue S.W.
At that time, a white 2009 Lincoln MKX, driven by a 16-year-old boy, was travelling onto the far-right northbound lane of Crowchild Trail S.W. from the 50 Avenue S.W. interchange.
At the same time, a white 2011 Lincoln MKX, driven by a 47-year-old man, with a young child passenger, was travelling northbound along Crowchild S.W. in the adjacent lane.
As the 2009 Lincoln continued in the northbound lanes, the 2011 Lincoln changed lanes, moving into the far-right lane, striking the 2009 Lincoln. The impact caused the 2009 Lincoln to enter the east shoulder of Crowchild Trail S.W., ultimately striking a large concrete base of a support pole for a large traffic sign.
The 2009 Lincoln suffered significant damage and caught on fire. The 16-year-old driver of the 2009 Lincoln was pronounced deceased at scene.
The driver of the 2011 Lincoln initially left the scene but returned a short time later. The driver and passenger of the 2011 Lincoln were uninjured.
At this time, speed is being investigated as a possible factor in the collision. Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision.
