Police investigate fatal collision in the city’s northwest

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a collision that occurred this morning resulting in the death of a woman.

Today, Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at approximately 8:15 a.m., we responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian near the intersection of 24 Avenue and Upper Place N.W.

At the time, it is believed a small, hatchback vehicle, driven by a 41-year-old man, was travelling east on 24 Avenue N.W.

At the same time, a 21-year-old woman was attempting to cross 24 Avenue N.W. from Upper Place N.W. As the woman was crossing the road, she was struck by the vehicle.

She was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver remained on scene.

Neither excessive speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors in this collision.

The position of the sun in relation to the driver’s view may be a factor in this collision.

The pedestrian crossing the road outside of a designated crosswalk is also believed to be a factor in this collision.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate this incident and are asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
