Police investigate fatal collision in southwest Calgary

Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate a single-vehicle collision that occurred yesterday afternoon in the southwest community of Patterson Heights, resulting in the death of the driver.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, we responded to a single-vehicle collision at a parkade entrance in the 200 block of Village Terrace S.W.

At that time, a 2020 Ford F-150 truck had approached the security garage door of the parkade. The driver, a man in his 70s, exited the vehicle, and it appears the vehicle began to roll backwards with the driver caught in the open door. The vehicle continued rolling and eventually collided with a tree, pinning the driver between the tree and the vehicle door.

The injuries to the driver were fatal.

Speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
