Police investigate fatal collision in Forest Lawn
Our Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred earlier this morning and resulted in the death of a man.
At approximately 12:20 a.m., today, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, police were called for reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a Calgary Transit bus in the intersection of 17 Avenue and 44 Street S.E.
It is believed the bus was travelling westbound along 17 Avenue S.E. and proceeded to cross 44 Street S.E. on a green traffic signal. At the same time, an 18-year-old man was trying to diagonally cross 17 Avenue S.E. towards the northwest corner of the intersection when he was struck by the bus.
Despite life-saving efforts from first responders, the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene.
The driver of the bus remained at the scene and was uninjured, and there were no reported injuries to any of the passengers on the bus.
Neither speed nor alcohol are considered to be factors in this collision.
