Police investigate fatal assault in Capitol Hill

Our Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal assault in the northwest community of Capitol Hill.

At about 4:53 a.m., today, Thursday, July 2, 2026, officers responded to reports of an assault with a weapon in the 1300 block of 20 Avenue N.W. Upon arrival, officers located a man who appeared to be suffering from life-threatening injuries. The man was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

One person was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, July 3, 2026.
