Police investigate collision involving motorcycle

We continue to investigate a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle that occurred yesterday afternoon in the city’s southeast.

At approximately 1 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, it is believed a motorcycle rider lost control of his Suzuki motorcycle in the westbound lanes of Anderson Road S.E., near Bonaventure Drive S.E.

At the time, the rider, a 68-year-old man, was travelling in the lane closest to the centre median, when he applied brakes to the rear tire and lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle then dropped onto its right side, where it slid with the rider several metres into the post and cable barrier, which separated the westbound lanes from the centre median.

The rider sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.

At this time, excessive speed, alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors in the collision.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate this incident and are asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through either of the following methods:
