Police investigate collision involving e-scooter

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a serious-injury collision involving an e-scooter that occurred downtown earlier this week.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, a collision occurred at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Fourth Avenue S.E.

At the time, a 34-year-old man was operating an e-scooter travelling east along Fourth Avenue S.E., on the north sidewalk approaching Macleod Trail S.E.

At the same time, a U-Haul truck, operated by a 25-year-old man, was travelling west on Fourth Avenue S.E., approaching Macleod Trail S.E.

As the e-scooter crossed the intersection, it mounted the sidewalk on the northeast corner of the intersection. The man operating the e-scooter lost control and fell onto the road into the path of the U-Haul.

The U-Haul then struck the operator of the e-scooter, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

The scooter operator was taken to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

The driver of the U-Haul brought the truck to a stop and was not injured in the collision.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in this collision.

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
