Police investigate collision involving child

We continue to investigate a collision that occurred yesterday in the northeast involving a child who was sledding at the time of the incident.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, we were called to the area of Marlyn Way N.E., and the 200 block of Marlyn Place N.E., for reports of an incident where a child collided with a vehicle.

At the time, an SUV, operated by a 25-year-old man, was travelling west on Marlyn Way N.E.  As the vehicle arrived at the intersection with the 200 block of Marlyn Place N.E., a six-year-old boy, who was sledding, came down a hill and onto Marlyn Way N.E.

The child slid into the passenger side of the vehicle as it was driving, knocking him off the sled and into the roadway.

The driver stopped the vehicle and remained on scene. The child suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in this collision.
