Police investigate break and enter and shooting in Abbeydale

We are investigating a break and enter and shooting that occurred early this morning in the northeast community of Abbeydale.

At about 4:05 a.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, it is believed that multiple suspects broke into a residence in the 800 block of Abbotsford Drive N.E., which, at the time, was occupied by five adults and two children.

Once inside, it is believed the suspects assaulted two of the adults and demanded money and other items, before fleeing the residence. Outside the residence, there were multiple gunshots fired as the suspects were leaving, which struck neighbouring homes.

Two adults in the home suffered significant injuries that required treatment in hospital. The other adults and two children in the home were not injured.

The investigation is ongoing. At this time, investigators believe there were three or four suspects involved, who were wearing masks and carrying handguns at the time of the incident. It is believed that some of the suspects left the scene on foot, while others left in a red truck.
