Police charge youth with counsel to commit murder

We have charged a 16-year-old with counsel to commit murder after receiving a report alleging the youth solicited a citizen to murder someone else.

On Friday, May 13, 2022, we received a complaint from a citizen stating that a 16-year-old person asked them to murder another youth in exchange for payment.

After a six-week investigation, officers gathered enough evidence to support charging the youth.

“This is a very serious and disturbing incident,” says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit. “We are thankful police were notified and could investigate before anything tragic happened. As a Service, our priority is to ensure public safety of all Calgarians.”

The youth was arrested without incident on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, and cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth is scheduled to appear in court today, Wednesday, June 29, 2022, and has been charged with:

  • One count of counsel to commit murder
  • One count of breach of a court order
  • One count of possession of marijuana

Youth programming

The Calgary Police Service offers a variety of mentorship, intervention and educational programs for youth and young adults aged five to 18. These programs offer opportunities for youth to positively interact and engage with our officers.

“We work to build lasting relationships with youth through our Youth Services Section,” says Staff Sergeant Chisholm. “Our programs provide youth with mentorship and support, and access to School Resource Officers who are available to assist with crime complaints, conflict resolution, and navigating challenging situations. If youth are experiencing hardships, we encourage them to reach out to us for assistance.”

For more information on our youth resources, visit the youth services website.
