Police charge three individuals in relation to stolen plaques

We have charged three people with possession of stolen property in relation to hundreds of plaques that were reported missing from a northwest cemetery in August.

Sometime between Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, and Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, it is believed three individuals attended the Queen’s Park Cemetery located at 3219 Fourth Street N.W., and removed approximately 300 bronze plaques commemorating deceased loved ones. Numerous bronze flower vases were also stolen from the cemetery.

Cemetery staff were notified of the missing plaques by attending family members and subsequently reported the incident to police.

As a result of our investigation, we have now charged three people in relation to this incident.

AJ Trodhie IRLANDEZ, 40, Matthew Keith WOODFORD, 36, and Dawn Louise SMITH, 46, all of Calgary, have each been charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.

IRLANDEZ and SMITH are scheduled to appear in court today, Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.

WOODFORD failed to appear in court on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, and is now wanted on warrants.

The Calgary Police Service would like to thank the media, the public and several local metal recyclers who helped advance this investigation.
