Police charge man with sexual assault after meeting women on dating apps

We have charged a man with two counts of sexual assault after it is believed he is responsible for sexually assaulting two different women after meeting them on dating apps.

In June 2023, the victim began communicating with a man she met using a dating app, and several months later in September 2023, met him in-person for a date.

Following the date, the man invited the woman back to his apartment and she agreed. The two engaged in consensual activity, and the woman spent the night at the residence.

The next morning the man sexually assaulted her, and she immediately left the residence. She reported the incident to police in January 2025.

In an additional incident, a new victim met the same man on a dating app in December 2024, and after going on a couple of dates throughout the month, agreed to meet the man at his apartment for their next date.

During her visit, the two briefly engaged in consensual activity, however, a short time later the man began to sexually assault the woman.

The woman left the residence and reported the incident to police in January 2025.

Following an investigation by our Sexual Assault Investigative Unit, Tuoyo Barnabas SADO, 36, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

SADO will next appear in court on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Before engaging in any sexual activity, consent must be given by both parties. Consent means agreeing to each sexual encounter, including kissing, touching or intercourse with another person. Sexual contact with a person is never acceptable without clear, voluntary and specific consent. People are free to change their mind about consent, at which point the unconsented sexual act must immediately stop.

In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault. Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.
