Police charge man; several firearms and ammunition seized
We have charged a man with several firearm-related offences and removed various guns from Calgary’s streets following a seizure that took place earlier this year.
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a citizen was walking along a trail south of Canada Olympic Park and located a loaded handgun and cell phone. The citizen immediately contacted police and our officers attended the scene and seized the items.
An investigation was subsequently launched, and police determined the items belonged to a man who was believed to be in possession of several additional firearms.
In the months following, police continued the investigation, and on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, executed several search warrants for vehicles and residences related to the suspect.
Police searched three vehicles including a 2014 Honda Fit, a 2021 GMC Denali and a 2023 Audi RS Q8. Police also searched three residences located in the 8000 block of Wentworth Drive S.W., the 100 block of Mahogany Centre S.E. and the 1100 block of Mahogany Boulevard S.E.
The suspect, and a woman associated to him, were located inside one of the residences and subsequently arrested.
The following items were seized as a result of the searches:
· A loaded Glock 26
· A loaded SKS rifle
· An Aero Survival rifle
· A Keltec Sub 2000 rifle
· A prohibited 100-round drum magazine
· An extended, prohibited unpinned magazine
· Shoulder holsters
· $4,950 in Canadian currency
· Cell phones
· Ammunition
· Spent ammunition
As a result, we have charged Naithen Joseph FOSTER, 31, of Calgary, with:
· Possession of a firearm contrary to an order
· Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition
· Possession of a firearm knowing the serial number has been altered
· Reckless discharge of a firearm
· Two counts of possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
· Two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
· Two counts of unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon
· Two counts of possession of a firearm obtained by crime
FOSTER will next appear in court on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024.
The woman who was arrested at the same time as FOSTER was released from custody without charge.
