Police charge man in historical sexual assault investigation involving teenage girl

We have laid charges in relation to an inappropriate relationship that began in 2013 between a 13-year-old girl and a man who was 22 years old at the time.

In 2013, the victim and man were introduced online through a mutual acquaintance involved in the cosplay scene and they began communicating via social media. Their conversations led to in-person meetings and the development of a relationship, which became sexual.

Later that year, a family member of the victim contacted police to report the inappropriate relationship, however, at the time, both individuals denied any sexual contact, and there was insufficient evidence to support criminal charges.

In December 2024, the victim, who is now an adult, came forward to police to report the inappropriate relationship that began in 2013, and the subsequent sexual assaults that occurred during the relationship.

With new information brought forward, our officers were able to further the investigation, and as a result, charged Isaac HO, 34, of Burnaby B.C., with:

·       Sexual interference with a child under the age of 16

·       Invitation to sexual touching with a child under the age of 16

·       Sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16

HO will next appear in court on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025.

In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault. Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.
