Police charge man in connection with sexual assault

The Calgary Police Service Sex Crimes Unit has charged a man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred earlier this week.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, a woman got off a bus near the intersection of Sandstone Drive N.W. and Berkshire Boulevard N.W. An unknown man approached the woman and began speaking with her. When she attempted to leave, the man sexually and physically assaulted her. He then forced the woman to the ground where he attempted to continue the sexual assault.

An approaching bus caused the man to flee. The bus driver contacted 9-1-1 and waited with the victim.

The woman was taken to hospital in stable condition. Police believe the attack was random.

Chase Daniel Adam COLLIER, 24, of Calgary, is charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault in connection with this incident. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.

COLLIER surrendered to police without incident yesterday evening after he became aware that investigators were looking for him.
