Police charge man in armed robbery of gas station

We have charged a man in relation to a robbery that occurred last month at a gas station in the northwest.

On Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at approximately 10:30 a.m., it is believed an unknown man entered Mobile Gas, located at 6914 Fourth St. N.W. The man was armed and threatened an employee with a firearm while demanding money and cigarettes from behind the counter.

The man stole an unknown amount of money and cigarettes from the store before fleeing the area in a black Nissan Murano. During the investigation, it was determined the Murano was stolen.

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, at approximately 4:10 p.m., our members responded to a collision that occurred in the 7300 block of 37 Avenue N.W., involving the stolen Murano. The driver attempted to flee the scene, however, witnesses helped locate the man before he was taken into custody by our officers.

As a result, the man was charged with the several offences related to the armed robbery and the collision.   

Jamie Robert SMITH, 49, of Montreal Que., is charged with:

·       Robbery with a firearm

·       Possession of stolen property over $5,000

·       Refusal to comply with a demand  

·       Failure to stop at the scene of an accident

·       Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

·       Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·       Possession of a stolen identity document

·       Three Traffic Safety Act violations

He will next appear in court on Monday, March 24, 2025.
