Police charge man and search for woman involved in serious incident

We have charged a man in relation to an incident that took place in December 2022 that left a victim with life-altering injuries. We are also seeking public assistance to locate a woman believed to be involved in the incident.

In the early morning hours on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, the victim and two suspects, a man and a woman, who did not know the victim prior to this incident, were together inside the victim’s vehicle while it was parked in the Westbrook Mall parking lot, located at 1200 37 Street S.W.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. that morning, it is believed the victim went into medical distress and became unconscious in the vehicle. At this time, the suspects allegedly dragged the victim from the vehicle, and left him on the ground in the parking lot.

The suspects then got back into the victim’s vehicle and ran over the victim. They subsequently stopped the vehicle and went back to take the victim’s wallet before fleeing the scene.

A short time later, it is believed the victim’s vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision with a retaining wall in the nearby neighbourhood of Richmond. The suspects fled the scene and left the vehicle behind, and used the victim’s debit card and a credit card belonging to the victim’s employer at several businesses throughout the city.

The victim was found at approximately 8 a.m., by a passerby who called 9-1-1. The victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and has sustained life-altering injuries.

As a result, we have charged Skylar Nigel BRAGG, 22, of Calgary, with:

  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Fail to stop after accident
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle causing injury
  • Robbery
  • Fail to comply with undertaking
  • Three counts of fraud under $5,000

He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023.

We are seeking public assistance to locate the woman believed to be involved in the incident. She is described as approximately 35 to 36 years old, 5’4” tall, with a medium build and red hair. She also has a tattoo on her left shoulder with her son’s name. She was last seen wearing a black jacket with a fur-lined hood, grey sweatpants and black boots.

“We are asking for anyone with information about this incident to come forward to police,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Liana Deegan of the Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit. “The victim was left alone outside in frigid temperatures for several hours in the middle of winter and has now suffered life-altering injuries as a result of this horrible incident. We have already charged one person for their involvement, and we are looking to hold the other person responsible.”
