Police charge four individuals with drug trafficking and weapons offences

We have charged four people in a drug trafficking investigation dating back to August 2023, and seized and removed dangerous firearms and drugs from the community.

In August 2023, our officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that was travelling in the city’s southwest. The vehicle subsequently fled from police and the occupants disposed of a bag in the backyard of an unrelated residence in the community of Glamorgan. Officers retrieved the bag and located drugs and two firearms inside.

Our officers immediately launched an investigation and as a result, successfully identified two men believed to be responsible.

As the investigation progressed, officers believed the men to be conducting activity consistent with drug trafficking and in January 2024, located one of the suspects. Search warrants were conducted for his residence located in the 200 block of 10 Avenue S.E., and for a grey 2009 Infiniti FX, he was believed to be associated to. Following the search, officers located and seized:

A loaded Glock 43 handgun with the serial number removed
$13,080 in cash
Four cellphones
Approximately 33 grams of Fentanyl
39 grams of crack cocaine
Approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine
15 grams of cocaine
A scale

As a result, in February 2024, 19-year-old But Morwal MAGER, of Calgary, was charged with:

Two counts of breaching a Youth Criminal Justice Act order
Three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
Possession of proceeds of crime
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
Possession of a loaded, restricted firearm
Possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number
Weapons prohibition
Operating a motor vehicle without a license
Operating a motor vehicle without insurance

He will next appear in court today, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024.

At the time of the arrest, a woman associated to MAGER, was also arrested and charged. In February 2024, Adeng WOL, 19, of Calgary, was charged with:

Careless storage of a firearm
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
Possession of a loaded, restricted firearm
Possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number

She will next appear in court today, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024.

Investigators continued looking for the additional suspect and received information that he was temporarily residing in Ontario, but in July 2024, learned he returned to Calgary and was staying at a residence located in the northwest community of Sage Hill.

Investigators also observed the suspect conducting activity consistent with drug trafficking on several occasions while driving a white 2015 Chrysler 200.

On Friday, July 30, 2024, the suspect, and a woman associated to him, were located and arrested as they were exiting a restaurant located in the 1500 block of 12 Avenue S.W.

In addition to the arrests, search warrants were executed for a residence in the 0 to 100 block of Sage Hill Terrace N.W., and for the white 2015 Chrysler 200. The following was seized from the residence:

A loaded GSG 16 .22-calibre assault rifle with an extended magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition
An additional extended magazine with 20 .22-calibre rounds of ammunition
Approximately five grams of cocaine
Several cellphones

As a result, Latjor GENG, 18, of Calgary, was charged with:

Three counts of breaching a Youth Criminal Justice Act order
Careless storage of a firearm
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
Possession of cocaine
22 outstanding warrants

He will next appear in court on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024.

Alice AMADI, 19, of Calgary, was charged with:

Four counts of breaching a Youth Criminal Justice Act order
Possession of a firearm contrary to a firearm prohibition order
Careless storage of a firearm
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
Possession of cocaine

She will next appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024.

“Our investigators were determined to ensure the suspects in this investigation were charged in relation to their ongoing criminal activity,” says Staff Sgt. Lee Dunbar of the Organized Crime Coordination Unit. “Despite the time that passed and the distance one of the suspects travelled to evade our officers, the investigators remained committed to concluding the investigation with a successful outcome for Calgarians by removing weapons and drugs from our community and by holding drug traffickers accountable for their behaviour.”
