Pedestrian seriously injured in southwest collision

UPDATE: The pedestrian involved in this collision died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025. So far this year (as of Nov. 27, 2025), there has been a total of 35 fatal collisions, including 14 fatal pedestrian collisions.

Our Traffic Section is investigating a serious-injury collision involving a pedestrian that occurred last night in Southwood.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 30-year-old woman, was travelling southbound on Macleod Trail S near the intersection of 99 Avenue S.W. At the same time, a woman in her 30s was crossing Macleod Trail westbound, south of the 99 Avenue S.W. intersection, outside the marked crosswalk.

The vehicle entered the intersection on a green light and struck the pedestrian. She was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver and her passenger, a 60-year-old woman, were not injured, and the vehicle remained at the scene.

Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the collision.

So far in 2025, there have been more than 400 collisions in Calgary resulting in injury to pedestrians, and 13 pedestrian fatalities.

We continue to work with The City of Calgary to implement the Safer Mobility Plan with a common goal of Vision Zero – mobility free of fatalities and major injuries.
