Pedestrian seriously injured in southeast traffic collision

Our Traffic Unit is investigating a downtown collision that left one man with serious injuries.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, we were called for reports of a pedestrian collision near the intersection of northbound Macleod Trail S.E. and 11 Avenue S.E. Upon arrival, it was determined that a passenger on a Calgary Transit bus was seriously injured after departing the bus.

The passenger, a 57-year-old man, had placed his bag on the floor while preparing to depart the bus. The bus stopped and the man exited but forgot his bag. The doors closed as the man turned to try to retrieve the bag. As the bus drove off, the man fell into the path of a rear wheel. He was transported to hospital in serious condition.

At this time, it is believed alcohol, on the part of the passenger, is a factor in the collision.
