Pedestrian fatality in late-night collision

The Calgary Police Service is investigating following a pedestrian collision that occurred last night in the city’s southwest.

At approximately 10 p.m., on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, police were called to the intersection of Macleod Trail and Southland Drive S.W., for reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

It is believed that a man was walking westbound across Macleod Trail at Southland Drive on the south side of the intersection. He was struck by a 2018 Cadillac XTS operated by an elderly man travelling on a green light southbound on Macleod Trail.

It is unclear whether the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when he was struck. It appears that he was crossing against the pedestrian signals.

The pedestrian was treated by EMS but succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac was not injured.

Excessive speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors on the part of the driver.
