Pedestrian dies following collision downtown
Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a collision that resulted in the death of a woman in her 80s after she was struck in a crosswalk downtown.
Investigators believe that at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, the pedestrian, an 87-year-old woman, was walking northbound across Ninth Avenue S.E. in a marked crosswalk. At the same time, a grey 2005 Chevrolet Equinox was travelling southbound on First Street S.E. The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 60s, entered the intersection and turned left to go eastbound on Ninth Avenue S.E., where he struck the woman in the crosswalk.
She was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Equinox was not injured and remained on scene.
Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the collision.
