One woman charged with assault

One woman has been charged after an assault at a liquor store in the city’s southwest.

At around 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, a woman entered the Canadian Liquor Store located at 619 Shawcliffe Gate S.W., where she began verbally harassing both staff and customers. Before leaving the premises, she asked the cashier personal questions and then spat at her while making racially charged remarks. Two customers in the store who witnessed the assault called police.

After reviewing CCTV and witness statements, on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, investigators located and arrested one woman in relation to the assault.

Omet MARKOJULLO, 27, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of assault. She will next appear in court on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025.

Investigators believe there may have been additional people in the store who witnessed the assault and ask them to contact police or Crime Stoppers with information.

Hate-motivated crimes are recognizable crimes, like assault, theft, vandalism or any other crime, where the offender was motivated by bias, prejudice or hate that is based on one of nine personal characteristics of the victim.
