One man charged; police identify two other suspects in downtown stabbings

We have charged one man in connection with several stabbing incidents that occurred yesterday afternoon, and we have also identified two suspects in relation to an incident that took place early this morning at a downtown CTrain station.

On Monday, April 3, 2023, at approximately 12:45 p.m., we received multiple reports of a man with a knife who stabbed four people, assaulted two others, and damaged one vehicle, within the areas of the 600 block of Fifth Avenue S.W., as well as the 400 block of Fourth and Fifth Avenues S.W. Multiple units responded, and took one suspect into custody shortly after.

As a result, Chad CARRICK, 29, of Calgary, has been charged with four counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault, and one count each of mischief and failing to comply with a release order.

Additionally, at approximately 1:30 a.m., today, Tuesday, April 4, 2023, we responded to reports of an altercation that occurred at the Erlton/Stampede CTrain station, located at 2A Street S.E. Upon arrival, officers located one man who was suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds. He was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Approximately two hours later, another man who was believed to be involved in the altercation, flagged down Calgary Transit officers indicating he had also been stabbed. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Two suspects have been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
