One man charged in arson of Tesla vehicles
We have charged a man who is believed to have deliberately set fire to two Tesla vehicles in March 2025.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a woman parked her white 2023 Tesla Model Y at a charging station on 12th Avenue S.E. At 11 p.m., she discovered the vehicle ablaze and called 911. The Calgary Fire Department extinguished the fire. Investigators determined it had been deliberately set with an accelerant.
The following evening, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., emergency crews were called to a Tesla storage lot on Fairmount Drive S.E., where a grey 2025 Tesla Cybertruck was found burning. Investigators also determined it had been intentionally set using an accelerant.
The Calgary Police Service Arson Unit launched an investigation into the two incidents. Officers spoke to witnesses, obtained CCTV footage and issued a release to help identify the suspect.
With assistance from the public to identify the suspect, the investigation later confirmed the presence of the suspect’s DNA at the scene of one of the vehicle fires.
As a result, Kurt MAYVILLE, 38, of Calgary, has been charged with two counts of arson.
MAYVILLE is scheduled to next appear in court on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026.
