Officer-Involved Shooting Update – Monterey Park

Although details remain limited, the Calgary Police Service can confirm the following information in relation to an officer-involved shooting that occurred early this morning in the community of Monterey Park.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, police responded to the 100 block of Laguna Close N.E., for reports of armed men at a residence. HAWCS was first on scene, however ground units arrived just as three suspects were in the process of fleeing the scene in a vehicle. While fleeing, suspects fired shots at officers, and one officer discharged their Service weapon.

The suspects continued on and abandoned the vehicle nearby, and fled on foot. HAWCS was able to direct members to the location of two of the suspects, where they were arrested without incident by members of the Tactical Unit operating the Armoured Rescue Vehicle.

One of the suspects sustained minor injuries.

Police continue to search the area for evidence relating to the investigation, including a weapon, as well as the third suspect who is still outstanding. The third suspect is described as a dark-skinned male, in his late twenties or early thirties, 5’7” tall and was wearing a tan-coloured camouflage jacket with a hood.

The officer who fired his weapon is a 7-year member of the Calgary Police Service. As per protocol, the officer will now be placed on a 30-day administrative leave to ensure their wellbeing.

Charges are pending against the suspects.

Anyone who has information about the third suspect is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through any of the following methods:
