Officer-involved shooting on McKnight Boulevard

McKnight Boulevard from 68 Avenue to Stoney Trail has been closed following an officer-involved shooting.

Earlier this morning, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, officers attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. The driver began going the wrong direction on a roadway in northeast Calgary.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., the driver stopped. The incident escalated and one officer discharged their service firearm.

EMS was called, and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been called to investigate. The area where the incident occurred, McKnight between Stoney and 68 Avenue, is expected to be closed for some time.
