Officer-involved shooting on CTrain

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been notified and will be investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on a CTrain this afternoon.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, a Calgary Transit employee alerted police to the presence of a man on one of the trains with what appeared to be a gun in his lap. The train was held at the Sirocco Station and passengers were evacuated by police.

A man matching the description was located in one of the cars and contained as the sole occupant after the evacuation of the other passengers. The Tactical Unit was called out and worked for a number of hours to try and safely resolve the situation.

Around 4:30 p.m., the situation escalated and a member of the Tactical Unit discharged their firearm, striking the man. The injured party was treated by a Tactical Emergency Medical Services member and taken to hospital in serious condition.

At this time there is nothing to indicate this incident is connected to the shooting-related homicide in Crestmont.

The area will be held on continuity pending investigation by ASIRT. Expect significant delays and follow Calgary Transit for further instructions on detours.
