Officer-involved shooting in the southeast

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating after an officer-involved shooting occurred this morning.

Today, Saturday, July 22, 2023, at approximately 6 a.m., we were called to the 1000 block of 39 Street S.E., for reports of a break and enter at a residence.

At the time, it is believed a tenant living in the upstairs portion of the house, broke into the basement suite and began attacking tenants with a weapon.

Upon arrival, our officers attempted to deescalate the situation, resulting in an officer deploying a taser. The situation continued to escalate, and another officer discharged their Service firearm.

As a result, one person was administered First-Aid on scene and transported to hospital in stable condition.

No CPS members or members of the public were injured. Our Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) will be available for those in the community where the incident occurred.

ASIRT has been called in and will lead the investigation, and no further details will be available.
