Officer-involved-shooting in southwest Calgary

Police are currently on scene at an officer-involved-shooting in the city’s southwest.

Just before 9 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, police were called to an apartment building in the 600 block of 68 Avenue S.W., for reports of a disturbance coming from one of the residences within the building.

Officers arrived on scene and attempted to speak with the resident. After half-an-hour of negotiating, the situation escalated, the man jumped from a second-story balcony and confronted officers. At approximately 9:30 p.m., an officer-involved-shooting occurred.

The man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. No officers were injured as a result.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been notified and will be conducting the investigation. The Calgary Police Service is unable to provide any further details at this time.
