Officer-involved shooting in Legacy

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a woman.

On Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at approximately 1:20 a.m., police were called to a home in the 200 block of Legacy Circle S.E., to check on the welfare of a woman inside.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., the woman exited the home with a weapon. The situation then escalated and one officer fired their Service weapon, striking the woman.  She was declared deceased at the scene.

During the incident a gas meter ruptured, causing a gas leak in the community. Officers assisted in evacuating homes affected by the leak, escorting community members out of the area until the Calgary Fire Department could secure the scene. The cause of the gas leak has not been determined. Affected residents were able to return to their homes a short time later.

One officer was transported to hospital for precautionary measures, and another was evaluated by medics. We are thankful to report they are recovering.

As is protocol with any officer-involved shooting, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has taken over this investigation, and no further information will be available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service by calling 403-266-1234.
