Officer-involved shooting in Coventry Hills

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after an officer-involved shooting occurred late yesterday evening in northeast Calgary.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., on Sunday, July 17, 2022, we were called by a resident in the 12100 block of Coventry Hills Way N.E., for reports that an unknown man with a weapon had entered their backyard and was attempting to gain access to their residence. The family took shelter inside the house and awaited police arrival.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the man and despite de-escalation efforts, two officers discharged their Service weapons. The man was immediately given medical care by officers on scene and has since been transported to hospital in non-life threatening condition.

No officers were injured during the incident.
