Non-injury structure fire in Thorncliffe

At approximately 9:30 pm on September 10th, 2022 the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 6400 block of Centre Street NE, in the community of Thorncliffe, for a report of a fire in a unit of a multi-family structure.  On arrival, crews did not see smoke or flames but further investigation found that the reported unit was fully charged with smoke and that there had been a fire in the kitchen that was no longer actively burning.  A lone male occupant had safely and without injury evacuated himself from the unit and identified himself to firefighters.  This occupant was the person that called 911 to report the fire.

Fire crews quickly entered the structure to extinguish any remaining fire.   Fire damage was contained to the kitchen area with smoke damage throughout the unit.  Occupants of adjoining units were immediately evacuated as a precaution but were soon able to reoccupy their homes.  The occupant of the fire unit will be displaced until damage can be repaired.

A Fire Investigator attended the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
