Police operation targets drug trafficking and firearm possession

The Calgary Police Service Gang Enforcement Team has concluded a criminal investigation into drug trafficking and firearm possession offenses.

On August 4, 2015, police executed search warrants for residences in the communities of Panorama and the Beltline. As a result of the warrants, Sina VALAYATI, 19, of Calgary is charged with:

  •          Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking;
  •          One count of possession of the proceeds of crime;
  •          Two counts of failing to comply with a court order;
  •          One count of contravention of firearm storage regulations;
  •          One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm; and
  •          One count of possession of a prohibited firearm.

On August 20, 2015, additional search warrants were executed for residences and vehicles in the communities of Coventry and Harvest Hills. Two individuals were charged as a result of the warrants.

Majed ZULFIQAR, 19, of Calgary is charged with:

  • Four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking;
  • One count of possession of the proceeds of crime.

Erik Anthony SILVA, 20, of Calgary is charged with:

  • One count of possession of a prohibited weapon;
  • One count of possession of a controlled substance;
  • One count of possession of the proceeds of crime.

The Calgary Police Service Guns & Gangs Unit, along with the Gang Enforcement and Gang Suppression Teams, and various other areas of the Service, are targeting the groups suspected of gang activity.
