Firefighters fight deck fire in Valley Ridge

Shortly before 8:00 this evening the Calgary Fire Department responded to Valley Glen Bay NW for reports of a house fire.  Arriving fire crews found a 2 story single family residence with smoke visible at the rear.  Upon further investigation, firefighters found at wooden deck at the rear of the structure on fire.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire preventing extension to the house. There was no one home at the time of the fire but firefighters did find a pet cat and dog in the home. The healthy pets were turned over to neighbors for care.  A neighbor, a male in his twenties, who attempted to extinguish the fire, was treated for minor smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital.  There were no other reported injuries.  Investigators are currently on scene. Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time.
