News Release: City responds to Provincial announcement of new COVID-19 measures

The City of Calgary supports the new public health guidelines announced by the Province of Alberta today. Clear, decisive action is necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19, save lives and prevent further long-term economic impact.

City administration is reviewing the new provincial public health guidelines to understand the impacts on our own services, operations and facilities. We will work closely with the Province to determine how we can support and enforce the Public Health Orders at the municipal level.

As Provincial measures are implemented, The City will make this information available at Calgary.ca/covid19 and through an upcoming media availability.

“I recognize that additional restrictions, especially at this time of year, carry a significant economic, mental, and social burden for Calgarians,” says Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “But it is critical that we all do everything we can to keep our families, neighbours, and communities safe. The safer we can keep each other, and the more we can control this virus, the better able we’ll be to return to normal as vaccines become available.”
