New community shuttle fleet bringing more comfort, convenience to customers

Over the past year, Calgary Transit has put more than 70 brand-new gasoline community shuttle buses on the road, replacing older models to deliver a more comfortable and cost-effective ride for customers and taxpayers.

“Compared to our old shuttles, the new units offer passengers an improved comfort with air conditioning, and smoother rides,” said Dennis Uvbiama, Manager Service Vehicles, Calgary Transit. “They also deliver better fuel efficiency, enhanced reliability, and lower maintenance costs.”

Each new shuttle also includes a front-mounted bike rack for one bike. These racks are only available during daylight hours and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more about using these bike racks at calgarytransit.com/bikes.

These vehicles replaced older models, with an average mileage of more than 520,000 km over each bus’s five-year lifecycle. It continues the effort that started last year to update the entire outdated shuttle fleet. Over one-third of the fleet has been replaced so far, with the remaining swap outs planned by mid-2026.

Our community shuttles serve important routes that connect customers at a local level to jobs, schools, hospitals and other important destinations, including convenient transfer points for transit service.  

Community shuttle fleet replacement aligns with our commitment to maintain a modern, cost-effective fleet to ensure safe and reliable transit operations. By the end of 2026, we will have replaced 160 shuttle buses.
