Municipal Building update on City Services

August 2, 2022

CALGARY – The City of Calgary continues to assess the impact of Tuesday morning’s security incident at the Municipal Building. The building will remain closed to the public.

Several services on the third floor of the complex were impacted by water damage as the result of the sprinkler system being triggered by an intruder. The intruder has been arrested by police.

The incident impacted parts of the third floor of the building that house Planning and Development Service Counter, Fair Entry, including low-income Transit passes, and The City’s Cashier services.

Contingency plans are in place to continue to supply City services until the Municipal Complex is reopened.

Fair Entry

·      A temporary Fair Entry counter will be located on the third floor of the Central Library, 800 3 St. S.E. It is not expected to be operational until Thursday but Citizens can still apply for Fair Entry online or in person at the Village Square Leisure Centre location where there will be extended hours.

Cashier Services

·      Cashier services will also be moved to the third floor of the Central Library effective Thursday.

Taxation

·      The Taxation Service Desk will be moved to the third floor of the Central Library effective Thursday.

Planning and Development counter

·      The Planning and Development Counter will be moved to the main floor of the Whitehorn Multi-Services Centre at 3705, 35 St. N.E. effective Thursday. Applicants can continue to apply for business licences and permits online at apply.calgary.ca. We do not expect a significant impact on inflight applications. If you have questions about an existing application, please contact Planning Services. Our online chat and call centre remain open during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

The City apologizes for any inconvenience.
