Media Availability: Recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Media are invited to attend an event on Thursday, June 15 to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). This collaborative event is organized in partnership with The City of Calgary and several Calgary community organizations to raise awareness of elder abuse. Organizations include the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS), the Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizens’ Association, Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society, Carya, Immigrant Services Calgary, Jewish Family Services Calgary, Calgary Police Service and the Kerby Centre.

The program includes a presentation by Grade 6 students, a skit performed by seniors and a video on elder abuse. Community resource information will be available.

The Calgary Tower will be lit in purple to raise awareness of elder abuse. Calgarians are also encouraged to wear purple to show their support.

When: Thursday, June 15, 2017, 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

             Located inside the Central Library.
