Media Availability: Major milestone reached for Macleod Trail and 162 Ave. South Interchange

The media are invited to a special event on Sunday, August 13 from 1:30 – 2 p.m. to recognize a major milestone in the construction of the new interchange at Macleod Trail and 162 Avenue in south Calgary.

The event will celebrate the opening of Canada’s first Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) on August 14 as part of a staged opening towards full operation of the interchange.

The interchange is an integral part of the City’s overall transportation network, helping to enhance Macleod Trail as a free-flow gateway into Calgary from the provincial highway network. Macleod Trail carries approximately 60,000 vehicles per day at this location, and 162 Avenue/Sun Valley Blvd. has about 35,000 vehicles per day.

The program begins at 1:30 p.m. and will feature Mayor Naheed Nenshi, Ward 14 Councillor Peter Demong and Ward 13 Councillor Diane Colley-Urquhart, and Calgary-Shaw MLA Graham Sucha.

When: Sunday, August 13, 2017, at 1:30 p.m.

Where: On the north bridge of the new 162 Avenue interchange over top Macleod Trail. Event parking is directly on Sun Valley Boulevard (see attached map). Once parked, walk west to the north bridge and make your way to the white tent on the bridge.
