Media Availability: Macleod Tr and 162 Ave S interchange project reaches major milestone

The media are invited to an event on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, recognizing the achievement of a major milestone for the Macleod Tr. and 162 Ave. S Interchange project.

The event will mark the opening of the south side overpass bridge detour during the weekend of Oct. 15-16 which will result in the free flow of traffic at that location with the removal of traffic lights on Macleod Tr. The completed south side overpass will handle both east and west traffic over the next 12 months while crews construct the north side overpass.

The event program will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. City Councillors Diane Colley-Urquhart and Peter Demong and MLA for Calgary Shaw Graham Sucha will speak at the event.

What: Major milestone recognition event for the partial completion of the Macleod Trail and 162 Avenue interchange and free flow of traffic on Macleod Trail

Where: NE quadrant of the Macleod Tr. and 162 Ave. S intersection on the parking lot near the Wingate Hotel (400 Midpark Way SE). Map attached.

When: Friday, October 14, 2016, at 1:30 p.m.

NOTE: Immediately following the event, the media will have an opportunity to participate in a short guided tour of a section of the overpass. However, before going on the tour, the media must go through a brief safety orientation at the contractor’s site trailer. Full PPE must be worn for the tour (i.e. safety boots, construction hard hat, reflective vest, safety glasses, gloves). No exceptions will be made, as the overpass is still an active construction site.
