Media Advisory: Unveiling event for manhole cover design

This Saturday September 15^th from 1 to 5 p.m. on Prince’s Island, The City is showcasing three new manhole cover designs created by Canadian artists; Andrea Williamson, Mary Haasdyk and Jeff Kulak.

A unique design was created for each of the three systems in our more than 12,000 km of underground pipes that travel beneath city streets carrying water, wastewater, and storm water.

The Alberta Printmaking Society will be onsite helping event goers print their favourite manhole design on a t-shirt or canvas bag. City staff will also be there to talk with Calgarians about the importance of water conservation.

Approximately 2000 of a total of 200,000 manhole covers are expected to be replaced each year as part of regular lifecycle maintenance.
