Media advisory: The City of Calgary seeks opinions on the possibility of allowing liquor in Calgary Parks

In response to a public desire expressed in the 2018 Parks and Pathway Bylaw engagement, Calgary Parks will explore Calgarians’ opinions about allowing liquor in designated picnic areas.

Between January 17^th and January 31^st, Calgarians can give their input online at engage.calgary.ca/liquorinparks.

If public response is positive, a pilot project could be launched this summer, allowing The City to fully assess the impacts and decide whether to allow liquor on an ongoing basis.

Allowed use of liquor in parks would be limited strictly to picnic sites. As per AGLC regulations, liquor can only be consumed at a signed, designated picnic site, and can only be consumed with food.

All other bylaws would remain in effect, including Bylaw 20M2003: No person shall engage in any conduct which may disturb the use or enjoyment of any other user of a park. Public intoxication would not be tolerated.
