Recognizing Calgarians who improve life for persons with disabilities
2017 Advisory Committee on Accessibility’s Annual Awards Presentation
On Monday, December 11, 2017, Deputy Mayor Farkas will present The Advisory Committee on Accessibility Awards to Calgarians who have made our city more accessible for persons with disabilities. Awards will be presented in the following categories:
- The Advocacy Award: The Advocacy Award recognizes an individual or group of people who have improved the quality of life for persons with disabilities.
- The Access Recognition Award: The Access Recognition Award acknowledges how an individual or group – through the use of universal design principles – has improved access for persons with disabilities in Calgary. This award covers improved access to the physical environment, technology or products.
- The Ella Anderson Accessible Transportation Award: The Accessible Transportation Award celebrates an individual or group that emphasizes making public transportation more inclusive in our community. This award was created in memory of Ella Anderson, who served on the Advisory Committee on Accessibility.
When: Monday, December 11, 2017 at 9:40 a.m.
Where: Council Chamber, City Hall (800 Macleod Trail S.E.). Recipients will be available on the North side of Council Chamber immediately after the presentation for photo and interview opportunites.
Who: Mayor Naheed Nenshi will present awards to the following recipients:
- Access Recognition Award Winner: Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Accessibility Services Department (Spokesperson: Ron Whitford, Accessibility Advisor, SAIT)
- The Advocacy Award Winner: Marilyn Erho, Special Events & Peer Coordinator at Spinal Cord Injury Alberta
- Ella Anderson Accessible Transportation Award Winner: The Calgary International Airport YYC LINK Passenger Shuttle (Spokesperson: TBD)
