Massage therapist charged with assault

The Calgary Police Service has charged a massage therapist with assault of a client following an investigation into allegations of practicing with an expired licence.

On Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, a victim received a massage at her home located in the northwest community of Varsity. During the session, it is believed that the massage therapist strangled the victim, causing her to lose consciousness.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, the victim contacted Calgary Police Service, who investigated the incident. Upon further investigation, it is believed the massage therapist had been practicing with an expired licence from May 2015 to January 2023.

As a result of the investigation, Lev BORTSOV, 61, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of assault by choking.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.

Investigators are looking to speak to people who were clients of the therapist between May 2015 to January 2023. Our efforts to investigate assaults depend on strong community support. Even small details can significantly impact an investigation.
